Sadly, enough the Democratic candidate I want to win, John Edwards is losing in the race in the national polls, fund raising, and popular discussion. One of the things I have learned over my years working in politics are that campaigns are rarely what they seem, and truthfully, anything can happen. Thus it is not just some naïve bit of posting, but it is honest to go fact. By the end of January we may be having a very different discussion about the democratic party.
However, I was considering the possibility that the Ayatollah Huckabee and Hillary Clinton could face off in the general election. What would I do? I love my home, but could I return to a place where this where politics have evolved. There could be little else that would disgust me to such lengths. I have, by default, thrown my support over the years behind the Democratic Party’s choosing because they will always do better than a conservative. Hillary Clinton though? I truly wonder.
Can I through my support behind war mongering Hillary Clinton? People have explained to me that her pro-war stance, is just posturing to middle America. Unfortunately, I have nothing else to judge her reputation on. I also have a strange fear, a type of fear that does not normally sway my judgment. Lots of people only know two Presidential families.
Nancy Benac wrote that,
Forty percent of Americans have never lived when there wasn’t a Bush or a Clinton in the White House.– Associated Press Writer Fri Sep 28, 2007
She explains that assuming Hillary Clinton is a two term President, by 2016 the two families will be all many of us know. This is not a discussion about term limits, but a political primogeniture that has a stark resemblance to monarchical government.
At first I thought this was a crazy irrational fear, that I should just forget, but I keep coming back to it. Will I be casting my vote for the termination of the republic? And who will run in 2016? George P. Bush? And after that who is next?
So what is to be done? Third party voting tends to be a pointless exercise in self-righteousness. I doubt I will go down that road. I am sitting abroad as I right this, so question arises, do I return?
I want to return. It is my home.
Huckabee, I will not comment (yet)on because, there is no way that guy is getting my vote. He is really everything I hate about conservativism. The world could do with one less creepy religious fanatic, that’s for sure.
