Last night I went to see the New York premiere of Michael Moore’s Sicko. While I was in the theater guess who I ran into?
Michael Moore! That’s right, I walked out of the downstairs to go up to the balcony before the movie started and there he was. I yelled, “Oh my god you’re Michael Moore”
He responded “SSSHHHH, I am here to see the movie,” smiled, shook my hand and headed into the theater. He actually addressed the crowd a few minutes after that, explaining this was his neighborhood theater and he just wanted to come down to it.
I really liked the film and I think it is incredibly important for every American to see it. That being said, it is incredibly anecdotal in its approach U.S. healthcare. It is chock full of horror stories, first person accounts, and glimpses into other countries. Working for Pennsylvania’s Health Care Union has trained me to appreciate the facts when it comes to this industry, but as we all know sometimes numbers and graphs get in the way of a good story.
