Here in our beloved state of Pennsylvania one of the most anti-gay politicians in the state (only to be usurped by the Grand Master Santorum is at it again. Daryl Metcalfe (R – duh) now wants to end the travel advertisements bringing gay people into Philadelphia. The tourism bureaus get money from the state and he is really pissed it invites gays with money to come and spend it in our economically dieing state.
Don’t be too shocked though, Metcalfe has been a real dick head for quite some time now. He opposed the University of Pittsburgh granting domestic partnership healthcare, and was always one of the politicians quoted about the villainy of non-heterosexuality.
When Governor Rendell wanted to negotiate healthcare benefits for more state employees, Metcalfe added, “They [Pennsylvanians] do not believe that their tax money should be used to pay for benefits to people who choose to lead that type of lifestyle.”
He is always ranting about how the liberals are destroying traditional values and that sort of nonsense. Just by reading a newspaper you can get an idea that this man is a complete in total lunatic, who is finding demons where they don’t exist.
We really have to do something about this guy, and get him out of office. He is anti-gay, which is why I really hate him, but he is one more crazy politicians that makes this state look totally bonkers. Let’s elect someone who has real priorities and believes finding jobs for people is more important than defunding the gay tourism grant.
When I lived in Philly (a few years back) it was really clear to me how much Philadelphia, and all its residents, benefit from an active queer civic, political, and cultural (and economically significant) community. Inclusive legislation IS does “find jobs” and should be a “real priority.” But you knew that . . .
