I am vising my sister who just bought a new house. There are some built in speakers in the house. The speaker wires are coming out of wall to be connected to a stereo. She does not want to buy a stereo and just use her ipod.
I said I would help figure it out. She is in bumble fuck no where Ohio and thus no radio shack or anything like that. I went to the independent sound guy who did not have everything I needed so I went to wal-mart as well (first time in a decade.)
So The audio guy sold me a 12 foot RCA Audio Cable with a 4MM Clear Jacket.
I cut the male connectors off of one end and have have twisted the exposedcable around the end of the speaker wire.
I then plug that into the RCA – 1/4 headphone Y Adapter he sold me. The last step was that I went to walmart and bought a adapter that would would change a 1/4″ headphone plug into a 3.5mm headphone plug.
I am stuck. Nothing is working.
I think it has to do with the speaker wire he sold me. It says it is for a car, but he didn’t seem to think it made a difference.
Josh, give it up, it’s never going to work that way. That little iPod does not have enough power to drive those larger speakers. You need an amplifier to take the iPod signal and increase its strength to send it to the speakers. You might find a cheap one on Craigslist or at a Radio Shack. Hope this info helps!
