Back in School!

Today was my first day of Spanish Class. I am going to the Cristobal Colón Spanish School here in Quito. I have one on one instruction with a woman named Gabriela (Gabby). She is very good and incredibly thorough. I am in a strange place with my language. There are many things that I can remember from when I studied in high school. However, there are some very simple things that I have completely forgotten.

The school is very small, and we sit across from one another in cafe style tables. It makes for a very relaxed atmosphere. There are many types of students and we hang out on break. Of course, they serve us Nescafe …. blech. But what can i say, it comes with my tuition.

My lessons cost me $4 per hour. They are regularly $5 per hour, but I am a member of the South American Explorers Club. This gives me a $1 off per hour! I will make the cost of my membership back with two weeks of studying. I plan to go for 20 hours per week for four solid weeks. I believe this will give me a jump start. After the fourth week, I will talk to Gabby about cutting the number of hours a week down, but I will continue with more advanced topics in grammar and pronunciation.
