Campo di Fioro

I am sitting in a back alley internet station writing my update today. I woke up early and headed to the Villa Borghese. The subway was so packed, i did not even have to walk. It was like being at a concert, people just rushed the doors and I was swept in. When I got there I took a long walk through the park and picked up my ticket to Museo Borghese, which is an astonishing museum. It is small but packed with tons of very great art. After that I ate some lunch along the tree lined venues, and headed over to the Capuchin Crypt.

It was closed when I got there, so I did the national museum of ancient art, but has not ancient art at all. It has a lot of Caravaggios so, I did see some nice things. I made it back to the crypt and saw the stangest thing of my life. Look it up, it is crazy. My italian that sounds like elementary french is getting better. I have been able to start to communicate a little, and I even did a bit of haggling. I am feeling proud.

After that I decided to jump on the 116 bus, and take it to what I thought was a location relatively close to Campo di Fioro. I was not sure, so I was making a guessing game out of it. I got off way too early and still had to walk to get here. I was sitting on the stoop of the statue in the middle of the Palazzo and I saw the 116 drive past me twice! My dogs are barking and they are pissed.

Yesterday. Hmm? what did I do yesterday? I am not even sure, the days are starting to melt into one another. I hung out at a very chic wine bar near the Spanish Steps, did some shopping, and hiked throughout Trastevere. I accidently ordered pizza with anchovies on it … ick!

I went to the National Museum and saw a very good Manet exhibit. Oh and I had a lovely walk along the shore of the Tiber River. No one ever goes there so it was empty. I finally found Bar Vezio, the communist bar in Rome. The proudly hand their red flags, and display famous Communists Past and present. It was very great to had a glass of wine and a cafe with some comrades.

Well that is all for now. Keep reading.

  1. I knew Josh wouldn’t be able to avoid politics on his vacation. 😉

Have you been to the Galleria Borghese? They have a bunch of Caravaggio’s, including St John the Baptist, Self-Portrait as Bacchus, Boy with a Basket of Fruit, St Jerome, and David with the Head of Goliath.

The Pinacoteca Capitolina has The Fortune Teller and The Entombment. Galleria Capitolina has St John the Baptist.

San Luigi dei Francesi has St Matthew and the Angel and The Martyrdom of St Matthew. Santa Maria del Popolo has The Conversion of St Paul and The Crucifixion of St Peter.

Rome is one of the best places in the world to see the work of Caravaggio, but my favorite, Cupid, is in Berlin.

  2. it’s really ashame that someone like you gets to see such great works of art and the capuchin crypts. it’s really ashame manet was wasted on your eyes.

  3. Josh should have skipped those ridiculous crypts and used his limited time to see more real art. He only spent 20 minutes in the Sistine Chapel. He can’t have seen everything there. 😉

But, the end of his Rome vacation is rapidly approaching. He should pick wisely how he spends his time. No chasing after cute Italian boys, Josh! 😀
